The following is a list of items accepted at the Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management - Recycling Center.  If you have curbside recycling service, please contact your licensed hauler for information on what they accept for recycling.

 

  • ALUMINUM CANS – Empty and dry, whole or flattened.
  • BATTERIES - Automotive batteries accepted in Recycle Center.  For all other batteries see Hazardous Waste.
  • NEWSPRINT, CATALOGS, MAGAZINES, And BOXBOARD Now collected in the same bin!  Newspaper, The Shopper, Advertisements.   PHONE BOOKS are included in this category. Boxboard includes: FLATTENED Cereal boxes, tissue boxes, pasta boxes, shoe boxes, manila file folders etc.

Not Accepted:  Boxes that come from FRIDGE or FREEZER, these items are not recyclable. 

  • CORRUGATED CARDBOARD – Flattened boxes, no 6 or 12 pack beer and pop containers unless they are corrugated. Brown paper grocery bags may be included.
    NO boxboard (Please recycle with Catalogs & Magazines), no waxed or plastic coated items (i.e. fruit boxes).
  • ELECTRONICS - Also known as e-waste.  Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management does not accept e-waste.  Please contact Jack's Family Recycling Center for proper recycling.
  • GLASS JARS & BOTTLES – Empty, clean, unbroken with caps removed.  NO BROKEN GLASS!  Food and beverage containers only, CLEAR, GREEN AND BROWN.
    Not Accepted: Light Bulbs, Mirrors, Windows, Dishes, Drinking Glasses, Ovenware, Flower Pots.
  • METAL -  Scrap metal or metal items that are 95 percent metal or more.  Metal tools, kitchen utensils, lawn chairs (with cloth, vinyl removed), clothes hangers, screws, nails, metal toys, silverware, metal fencing, etc.
    Not Accepted: Washers, dryers, stoves, refrigerators, water softeners, water heaters, dehumidifiers.  If unsure please call.
  • OFFICE PAPER – White and Lightly Colored paper.  Plain or printed on, whole or shredded.  Adding machine tapes, envelopes with or without windows, index cards.
    Not Accepted: Staples, Paper Clips, Bright/Neon Paper, Photo paper, Brown Kraft Envelopes, File Folders.
  • #1, #2 PLASTIC –Empty, clean, unbroken with caps removed and thrown in the trash.  The plastic container should be two gallon or less in size.  Margarine tubs, Cool Whip containers, Folgers coffee and peanut butter jars can be included only if they have the #1 or #2 on the bottom.
    Not Accepted: Hard plastic, plastic bags, hoses, caps, pipe, toys and etc.
  • #3, #4, #5, #6 PLASTIC - NEW PILOT PROJECT! Must have recycle symbol, with #3-6 in it, on the product.  Includes: PVC Piping in 2ft lengths, plastic shopping bags, margarine containers, yogurt containers, cottage cheese containers.  All items should be clean. 

Not Accepted:  Styrofoam products.

          

  • TIN FOOD CANS – Empty, clean, whole or flattened with labels off.
 
  • USED OIL - Used oil must be in a pourable container size of 5 gallons or less.  It may be mixed with gasoline.

Not Accepted: Oil contaminated with hydraulic fluid, brake fluid, water, antifreeze, or pesticides.

  • USED OIL FILTERS - Filters can be accepted, but must be hot-drained for at least 12 hours prior to recycling the container.
  • HOLIDAY LIGHT STRANDS & WIRE - Wire, extension cords, holiday light strands, electrical cords from electronic devices.
  • YARD WASTE - Spring, Summer, and Fall ONLY.  During Winter season, contact a Construction/Demolition Landfill for recycling options.   Leaves, grass clippings, garden debris accepted ONLY.  Bagged yard waste must be emptied from bag into the container.

Not Accepted: Twigs, branches, tree stumps, wood chips.
