Slow the Hail of Junk Mail - November 18, 2009
You spend 30 hours every year hassling with unwanted mail...take back some of that time! Junk mail is said to create 5.8 million tons of waste and takes 100 million trees to produce just one year's worth! If the environmental reasons aren't enough for you to take action, maybe your lost time is!
Several options exist for individuals to take the initiative to stop unwanted mail from being sent to them in the first place. Visit Reduce.org for more information and websites to visit to get your name off mailing lists, just look for the "Junk Mail" link on the left side of the webpage.
You may also recycle much of the junk mail you recieve. Pope/Douglas accepts the following junk mail items in the Recycling Center:
- Catalogs
- Magazines
- Mailing inserts (delivered with newspapers)
- Office paper/mailing envelopes (with or without plastic windows)
Visit our Recycling Center page for a full list and details on what you can recycle at Pope/Douglas Solid Waste Management.
